Mary Pipher's Answer to 'Willful Ignorance'

Posted on December 5, 2014 at 7:12am 1 Comment

Unknown Mary Pipher, author, psychotherapist, and activist, spoke at the recent Future First Conference in Minneapolis, addressing the most dangerous defense the human race could adopt at this point, that of "willful ignorance". According to Mary, willful ignorance occurs when we are caught between facing something too dreadful to acknowledge yet too dreadful to…

Joanna Macy and 'Sustaining the Gaze'

Posted on November 9, 2014 at 2:26pm 4 Comments

One of the many phrases that will stay with me from this week at Women's Future First 2014 Congress is that of Joanna Macy: sustaining the gaze. Even though what we see in the world is frightening and enraging, it is so important we witness (not deny) what mankind has perpetrated upon our planet and to feel, to let…

Jung, Steiner, and Evolution of Consciousness

Posted on October 27, 2014 at 8:43am 0 Comments

A recent seminar on Jung and Steiner and their contributions to an evolution of consciousness, held at the C. G. Jung Institute in San Francisco, was well attended by individuals schooled in both camps. This seems to be happening more and more: finding the common ground of these two men's great works.

Although contemporaries, Carl Jung and Rudolf Steiner never met. And…

Interview: Charlie Toledo on Fun and Wholeness

Posted on October 10, 2014 at 3:55pm 0 Comments

When I was interviewing Napa therapist and water activist Charlie Toledo, Executive Director of the Suscol Intertribal Counsel, this week, we had a conversation not directly related to the drought and water that I found particularly healing. She told me that in pantheistic times, people had more fun.

"When I speak to elementary school kids, I always ask them, 'How do you think the California…

No, I live in my same place in Santa in my Cherry St. office 4 days a weeks and in SF on Monday's. My son is in SF and that sort of pulled me there and then things began to fall into place. In the heart of the financial district in a suit of mostly psychiatrist and other therapist. I love being there, started in Sept. and growing slowly, but just the right way. I am happy in both worlds....Lizbeth

Thank you, Patricia! I look forward to engaging with the vibrant community here.

I am excited to find others who are open-minded to these areas of thought.  Thanks again for the kind introduction. I will follow your advice and introduce myself to the Forum.

No, but I started a farmers' market in my area and we will start a community garden this spring. I was caught up in the "back to the farm" rhetoric of the 60's (along with my subscription to Mother Earth magazine and thew Whoel Earth catalogue of the time)  and went to spend a summer working on a farm. My city boy hippie persona met the real world!! I have been a supporter of the small farm every since.

Welcome Patricia,

Your site and book are on my list. (My middle name will soon be changed to have recently spoken with a number of small farmers in my area of the country who are frustrated with not having a language about what they do that conveys the soul of the life. I look forward to the arrival of your book.

Hi Patricia. Welcome to the online depth community!

I attended the SF Jung Institute event where you and Jerome Bernstein were speaking last spring. Unfortunately I got called to go out of town and had to leave midday so I missed connecting with you. Your web site is beautifully done and I shall enjoy perusing the vast content you have. I see you link to Erel Shalit's site. I connected with Erel at the Assisi conference last summer and we have been staying touch. Maybe you know him as well? So glad to have you here. I hope you will be willing to share some of your blogs or other work here on the Alliance.
