I never skipped school (though not from a lack of desire). I did pick which college I went to based on the fact that my forst choice was surrounded by acres of woodland. I knew that whatever I might get into in college, if I had the woods, I would be okay. Your post has also inspired me to find a wooded place to do my dissertation work. I have not yet officially started although my shelves are heavy with books that I may use. Much like you, I believe, there were times that I fantasized just staying in the woods. It seemed that I had a better relationship with the animals, trees, creeks, and birds than I had with other children my age. At least my studies in depth psychology have affirmed the value of such a relationship with the nature around me. Glad we have become friends. What is your dissertation topic again?

Hi Michael: I grew up on a farm with horse and these images immediately sent me into a flight of nostalgia and reverie--a beautiful and valuable experience. Thank you so much for sharing them. How great it would be to have that kind of experience now as an adult....

My love of nature and depth psychology came from my own healing in the woods.

As a child I would sit on top of a large rock in the deep forest. I'd become very still and watch and listen to nature around me. Every time I went, I returned with a peace that my child-heart enjoyed. I also realized by the playing of chipmunks in the leaves, and the scrathing sound of various beetles, etc. that nothing was at it seemed on the surface, thusly my affinity to depth psychology.

I look forward to reading your posts.

Welcome michael,

I am from Kentucky so your picture with the horses grabbed me immediately. What is the focus of your PhD? I see you have joined the ecopsychology group, is it along these lines? I believe you will find many who share your interests, whatever they may be or are in the place of becoming. Welcome to the Alliance.

Ed
