The Road Less Travelled: Jung, Hildegard of Bingen and the Path of Individuation at St. John's Episcopal

September 20, 2014 all day
In the middle of our life, we often find ourselves in a place of dryness, a Dante-like dark wood where we have lost our way. What once nurtured us has lost its savor; the elements of life that we once found so enticing and fulfilling now seem empty and devoid of meaning. This is exactly the point, Carl Jung discovered, at which the life of the soul is ready to emerge. The second half of a full life, Jung found, is about opening to Mystery, reclaiming the Authentic Self and finding the place…See More

Gnosticism, Early Christianity and the Nag Hammadi Texts at Hallat Hall, St. John's Epsicopal Church

April 24, 2014 from 10:30am to 12pm
Gnosticism was an area of study that captivated CG Jung for the later part of his life. The history of the Nag Hammadi codex, hidden early Christian scriptures rediscovered in Egypt in 1945, is intimately intertwined with the history of Depth Psychology. In fact, Jung believed that the so-called Gnostics were the first real depth psychologists who embraced both the Shadow and the principle of the Divine Feminine.  In this five part series, cultural historian and mythologist Kayleen will lecture…See More

Paths of Wisdom: A Labyrinth Workshop with Dante as a Guide at St. John's Episcopal Church

April 12, 2014 from 9am to 5pm
Dante's Divine Comedy has been called the most beautiful poem ever written- but it is much more than that: it is a brilliant work of imagination that weaves together Greek and Roman myth, European history and a pathway of universal spiritual development with deep cross-cultural resonances. Written during the "dark woods" of Dante's middle years amid a series of catastrophes, it is an epic achievement that saved the author's own life- and can immeasurably enrich our own. In this one-day…See More

Mary Magdalene, Gnosticism and the Gospel of Mary at The Journey Center

January 15, 2014 from 6pm to 7pm
The Gospel of Mary is an extraordinary ancient document of Mary Magdalene's teachings, rediscovered at the end of the 19th century in Egypt. In it, Mary Magdalene is depicted as the spiritual leader who guides the disciples after Jesus's death, strengthens their courage and reveals teachings that Jesus gave to her alone.  Harvard professor Karen King writes that this is a work “ that can lead the reader inward toward the identity, power and freedom of the true self”, a book that has much to…See More

An Apostle for Our Times: Mary Magdalene at New York Open Center- Online broadcast (1 pm EST, 10 am PST)

December 8, 2013 from 1pm to 3pm
The image of Mary Magdalene as a penitent prostitute, which dominated Western culture for 1,400 years, has given way in recent times to a plethora of portrayals. However, a careful reading of both the New Testament and the so called Gnostic texts reveals an image essential for our times: that of a female disciple of Jesus’ inner circle whose own teachings point the way for inner transformation, illumination and wholeness. Drawing on both traditional and Gnostic scriptures as well as legends of…See More

June 5: The Gnostic Magdalene and the Nag Hammadi Scriptures In 1945, a treasure trove of ancient manuscripts was discovered in a cave in Nag Hammadi, Egypt. This collection of gospels, actively suppressed by Rome in the fourth century, depicts the teachings of Jesus in  ways that are sometimes familiar  and ways that are sometimes very different  and challenging to our notions of Christianity and they provided a remarkable parallel to the theories and research of Carl Jung. Welcome Kayleen,

I have already responded to your entry in the "pilgrimage" invitation to the workshop. My theological studies included Hildegard and Francis w/Clare, with a enlightening side trip with Teresa. My PhD dissertation (I hope) will be focusing on the loss of the numinous in Christianity with suggestions as to how the depth psychological lens can help redeem what we have lost. I look forward to your additions to the Alliance.

Hi Kayleen. Welcome to the Alliance! I'm surprised we haven't crossed paths before. I live in North Bay and completed my M.A. in the Depth program at SSU a couple of years ago. I am currently finishing coursework in the Depth program at Pacifica. I guess it's a good indication the Alliance is serving the purpose for which it was created--to bring likeminded people together to share their learning, experience, and passion regardless of where they live and whether or not they "know" each other.

Meanwhile, I'm so glad you've found us. I hope you'll jump in here and engage right away by commenting, joining discussions, checking out the groups, and posting some of your own work if you're willing. Your retreat in April looks great: You should definitely post it in the Events section. I'll send you some additional info on navigating the site under separate cover. Meanwhile, enjoy!
