Transgenderism and Transformation: a Jungian Perspective, presented by Michael Marsman, LCSW at St. Wilfrid of York Episcopal Church

March 8, 2020 from 4pm to 6pm
While transgenderism as a cultural phenomenon seems, at least in part, to be based on a collective taste for the sensational, its emergence represents a collective shift towards a new or more differentiated way of experiencing and expressing sex and gender.  This presentation will elucidate the differences between sex, gender, gender role and sexual orientation.  We will discuss Jungian concepts and themes and apply them to dreams and other clinical material in an effort to understand…See More

[Lest We Forget, Part II] Nazi Shadow: Individuation as Antidote for the Problem of Our Times, presented by Holly J. Fincher, PhD at St. Wilfrid of York Episcopal Church

February 16, 2020 from 4pm to 6pm
“Lest We Forget” is an ongoing analytic research project which considers the catastrophe of WWII as a collective symptom of our changing god image—an archetypal process that continues to unfold in contemporary collective problems and experience.   As a new chapter in this continued body of work, this presentation will explore the so-called Nazi Shadow as a double entendre:  as shadow of one contemporary individual and also as shadow unrealized by an historical collective group.  Tracing the…See More

LAKSHMI, THE ARCHETYPE OF WEALTH, WELL-BEING AND WHOLENESS, presented by Mala Setty, PhD at St. Wilfrid of York Episcopal Church

January 12, 2020 from 4pm to 6pm
“The East teaches us another, broader, more profound, and higher understanding, that is, understanding through life.”  -- C. G. Jung, “Commentary” on The Secret of the Golden Flower (82)Goddess-centered images and myths are a rich source for understanding how psyche sanctifies mundane life. In the Hindu tradition it is goddess Lakshmi who bridges the secular with the sacred. As such, she occupies a key position in archetypal psyche. She advocates for both the ego and the Self even as she…See More

The Synchronicity of the Two Red Books: Jung, Tolkien, and the Imaginal Realm, presented by Becca S. Tarnas, PhD at St. Wilfrid of York Episcopal Church

November 10, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm
Beginning in the years leading up to the Great War, both C. G. Jung and J. R. R. Tolkien independently began to undergo profound imaginal experiences. They had each stepped across a threshold and entered into another world, the realm of imagination, the world of fantasy. Jung recorded these initially spontaneous visionary experiences, which he further developed using the practice of active imagination, in a large red manuscript that he named Liber Novus, although usually it is referred to…See More
