Introduction

Not long ago, I purchased an audio version of Jung's Memory, Dreams, Reflections and began to listen to it while pulling out weeds in my garden. I became immersed in it.

Something seemed to click, and I've been running on intrigue since, and am now returning to college after having dropped out more than 15 years ago as an undergraduate, registered to begin classes in midlife on a long trek to eventually pursuing more rigorous studies.

Jungian depth psychology seems to track with a lot of what I have already either apprehended or intuited from my own experiences.

Dreams are of interest to me, especially since until fairly recently I was very skeptical about them, and regarded dreams as being too inscrutable or irrelevant to be significant. However, my own experience of dreaming and paying attention to them throughout my life has seemed to contradict my own discursive thoughts on the matter.

What I have discovered regarding the basic Jungian view of the psyche is also exciting to me, and corresponds more or less with my own experiences.

I am a writer of essays, articles, poetry and fiction. My website/blog as yet is not very overtly "Jungian". But it is here: http://ericjsimpson.com

Dream and Non-dream

I fell asleep in my daughter's room. She is three, and I drifted off while putting her to sleep.

I dreamed that my wife had set the cable box to the television out on the curb. I was very angry in the dream. She was hostile too. I brought the cable box back inside and hooked everything up. I tried to turn on the television. Emphatically, I pushed the on button. I woke up.

Awake, I left my daughter's bedroom and went into my bedroom. My wife was awake. She told me that the…

Hello Eric, welcome to the group Encountering the Numinous! I really resonate with your comment that you have become captivated by Jung and depth psychology. I had heard of Jung but never read anything until I happened into a Depth Psychology master's program at age 55. I hadn't been in school since 1975 and was a little intimidated about whether I could hack it. I finished my thesis over a year ago, and I can say that the program is the single most important gift that I've every given myself. It was three years and I loved every minute of it. Good luck to you, and I look forward to hearing your comments in different groups in the Alliance.

Welcome Eric,

I believe you will find many others who share both your specific interests and your strong interest in all things Jungian/archetypal. Feel free to join a few blogs, forums, and/or groups and add your thoughts, insights, and questions. We are all sharing the same path.

Hi Eric. Welcome to the online Depth community. I'm glad you've found us. The idea of "active learning" is profound--you could probably write a fascinating book with that title that would sell well. I hope you'll find many topics of interest to stimulate just that facet of learning here on the Alliance.

Meanwhile, I encourage you to jump in and engage right away by joining a discussion, commenting on others' posts, or posting some of your own work. I'll send you some tips on navigating the site in a separate email. Enjoy!
