Conference in Assisi, Italy: Psyche and Soul in the Aging Process at Assisi, Italy

July 11, 2017 to July 18, 2017
As you journey towards Assisi, you pass by seemingly endless fields of Sunflowers. "Girasole", the name for sunflower in Italian, means to turn to the sun. As you watch the daily sojourn of these wondrous flowers, they literally turn throughout the day to face the sun. So too, as we age, psyche seeks to turn us, to orient us to a new understanding of our lives and of the path now in front of us. In aging we face eternal, and spiritual questions about life such as: —Are we living the life and…See More

Perhaps the most decisive moment in the history of Jung's work with Psyche, and dreams occurred during his journey into the unconscious.  Chronicling his experiences in this inner world, Jung writes in the Red Book that he was frightened by the power and effects of these inner images on his life. In an effort to diminish their influence, he turned to the prophet Elijah, one of the most powerful figures he encountered, saying that since he had created him from his own imagination, that he was…See More

Early Discount Rate Ends June 30: "SEEING RED" Conference at Location Horses Healing Humans Equine Therapy Center

October 6, 2016 to October 9, 2016
The abuse of women and girls continues to be, as former US President Jimmy Carter stated, “the most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on earth.”  The unconscious roots of feminine oppression often lie hidden behind manifestations of violence that  leave us seeing red and merely reacting. In order to be pro-active, to stop the violence before it starts, we must begin by illuminating the unconscious archetypal patterns which inform it .The Assisi Institute’s Seeing Red initiative…See More

Assisi Conferences

The Assisi Institute is an educational center dedicated to the study and application of Archetypal Pattern Analysis. Founded in 1989 by Michael Conforti, Ph.D., the Institute has become an international focal point for leading thinkers and groundbreaking conversation on the relationship between psyche and matter, the work of C.G. Jung, discoveries in the new sciences, as well as eternal truth of the world's great wisdom traditions. Located in the picturesque town of Brattleboro, Vermont, we also sponsor a series of public programs in Assisi, Italy and Portland, Oregon.

Central to this work is our Archetypal Pattern Analyst Training Program, which presents an in-depth understanding of the workings of archetypes and the self-organizing tendencies inherent within the human psyche. What sets this program apart is the creative and intellectual range of its faculty and students.

Our faculty consists of pioneers from disciplines as diverse as Jungian psychology, biophysics, theology, government, education, cinema, and the arts. This prolific group has published more than 3,000 books and articles, and continues to hold academic and governmental positions around the world. Participants' backgrounds are likewise varied, and our program thrives on this richness of experience.

Our non-profit Assisi Foundation was founded in 2003 to foster greater awareness of archetypal patterns underlying our cultural, social and global systems. Through public programs, research projects, and publications, the Foundation examines the evolving application of archetypal pattern analysis in the fields of psychology, medicine, business, and law, to name just a few. We strive to promote creative dialogue, share the profound potential of this work, and explore its greatest reach and relevance in contemporary culture.

Psyche Under Siege

Posted on February 12, 2013 at 12:00pm 0 Comments

After giving a lecture where I discussed the Holocaust, an elderly man approached me. I could see a genuine kindness and compassion in his face, and also sensed that his soul had seen far too much in his lifetime. He wanted me to re-consider my comment that we could never understand what created the Holocaust and ongoing acts of genocide.

Gently, yet firmly he explained that when we stop trying to understand, we open the door open for future occurrences. I immediately realized that I…

Patterns at Work, Patterns We Live By

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 5:48pm 1 Comment

In looking at patterns, we see an incarnation and expression of archetypes and spirit within the internal and external world.  The specific form and design of these patterns gives voice to the reality of these underlying shapers of experience.

From the moment a dancer steps onto the stage, to the lyrical musings of a poet, and even to our most intimate of relationships, we find these highly stylized, patterns in our life.  Joseph Campbell allowed us to see that one’s life is an…
