What Images do you associate with death?

Posted on July 27, 2011 at 6:11pm 3 Comments

When you think of dying or hear of someone you know that has just died - what images come to mind?  I'd be

very interested to hear what pictures your psyche is creating for your benefit - as Marie Louise Von Franz said that the "symbols that appear in death dreams are images that are also manifested in the individuation process." Are there images that assist in one's transition or possibly even hinder the process?  Drop me a line if you'd like...cb

I like your "depth-psychos" appellation. :)

Fascinating. My wife was a chaplain with Hospice and I was a counselor for cancer patients, both adults and children. How are you exploring the imagery and end-of-life experiences? Are you using imagery as a therapeutic approach or researching the images themselves? Would enjoy hearing more.

My dissertation (IF accepted) is redefining the concept of "soul" in an attempt to clarify some confusion created by its use by religious, spiritual, and depth/analytical folks. Then I move into how such a change can give a stronger theoretical basis for social justice, devotional practices, therapeutic practices, etc.

My background includes all these areas to some extent. (You are wondering if I've ever held a job for long? :) )

Again, glad you are with us and I hope we will continue our conversation.

Hi Cheryl. I'd like to add my belated welcome to Ed's. I've just finished coursework in the Depth Program at Pacifica and, as Ed pointed out, you've probably already noticed there are a lot of Pacifica students, grads, and faculty here in the community. I encourage you to jump in and engage right away by joining a discussion, commenting on others' posts, or posting some of your own work. I'll send you some tips on navigating the site in a separate email. Enjoy the site!

Welcome Cheryl,

And welcome fellow Pacifica-ite! What is your dissertation topic? Currently waiting to have my concept paper approved. There are several Pacifica folks that are members of the Alliance. I believe you will find much of interest in the many blogs, forums, and groups. I look forward to your posts.

Ed
