Finding Yourself and Expanding Your Horizons

Western culture emphasizes individualism and, therefore, being authentic and true to who we are. Who we are, of course, is influenced by others, who also may be influenced by us. Social neuroscientists have posited that humans evolved through interactions, as each person, each group, and each region shared their stories with others. And, human evolution is still…See More

What Stories Are You Living—and What Unconscious Assumptions Determine What You Do?

When someone asks, “How are you?”, you might say, “Great!” or “I’m good” or “Hanging in there” or some such, and leave it at that. But if you are talking with a friend, loved one, or anyone who seems truly interested, likely you might share an anecdote about why you feel the way you do. For example, you might say:I left my house at the normal time, just sailed along…See More

Are You a Warrior? And If So, What Kind?

Warriors generally are associated with two kinds of courage: (1) the ability to fight to protect themselves and (2) setting goals and developing the strength and skills to accomplish them. If we do not have enough access to the Warrior archetype, we may let other people push us around, lack direction, or fail to achieve our goals because we do not persist. Too much Warrior and every…See More

Archetypal Remedies for #MeToo and #TimesUp: How Not to Be Part of the Problem

Gender roles are in flux in a good way, so that we all have access to archetypes related to human attributes that have been divided up by traditional sex roles. Psychologists believed for much of the 20th century that mental health required fidelity to traditional sex roles, which often, when viewed in archetypal terms, meant Warrior and Explorer archetypal behaviors were expected to…See More

Ghosts, Zombies, Vampires, and the Apocalypse: What Are They Warning Us About?

The most profitable film genre in America today offers horror, as does television: These include narratives about the apocalypse, ghosts, zombies, and vampires. Why do we like them, and what are they telling us?Given nuclear proliferation, terrorism, and climate change, it is no surprise that people are drawn to movies about the apocalypse. Some of these movies are wakeup calls to heed the…See More

Brothers and Sisters: Friends or Foes? Oh, My!

By Carol S. Pearson Most of us get little help in navigating sibling relationships or seeing how they affect us. Recently, I was asked to give a presentation on sisters and brothers and found there is very little written about this important topic. Even family system literature focuses more on parents and addressing children’s problems, which, of course, are very important concerns. I…See More

Arrival: How the Feminine Saves the World

Life in the 21st century is challenging for all of us. We are living in a globally interdependent world, where time has accelerated, learning challenges are constant, and it is difficult to keep up with the pace of change and not feel overwhelmed. On top of that, physicists tell us that time and space are relative, which is difficult for any of us to understand when they seem so absolute.…See More

Finding Yourself in the New Tribalism

Neotribalism is a sociological term that describes the way many countries are splintering apart in response to a global society in which it is difficult to find our individual identities with so much coming at us to choose from in terms of lifestyle, values, and beliefs. Ancient ethnic and racial identities are re-emerging internationally, accompanied by actual violence or, closer to…See More

I write about applied Archetypal Psychology in personal growth books, like Awakening the Heroes Within, as well as leadership books, like The Transforming Leader.

My newest book, Persephone Rising: Awakening the Heroes Within (released in October 2015) is written for women and the men who partner with them at home, at work, or in the community. In May 2016, Persephone Rising was named a gold medalist in the category of books for women by the Nautilus Book Awards, an annual accolade of books in the genre of social and environmental justice. The book’s purpose is to help them thrive in today’s complex world, while also making a contribution to others and to the greater good.
I hope to share what I'm working on and learn from others.

Depth Leadership: How to Live Your Calling and Succeed in Leading Others

Posted on August 7, 2019 at 10:30am 0 Comments

Leadership today is too often viewed as a function or role conferred only by some authority. Yet, whether you are a parent, a teacher, a supervisor, a CEO, president of a country, or someone who acts because something needs to be done and no one else is doing it, you can lead successfully only if other people actually want to follow you, collaborate…

Hi Carol. Welcome to the Alliance! I'm so glad you've joined us here. After seeing how wonderfully receptive the Assisi community was to your talk when we met in September, I'm certain you will feel right at home here as well. I'd love to generate some discussion or a group around business and corporate applications for depth psychology, so maybe that will happen one day soon.

Meanwhile, as you may know, we currently have over 2800 members from all over the world. I hope as you explore the community a bit you find a dynamic group of like-minded people who are all deeply drawn by the field of depth psychology. While there are many Jungian analysts and clinical psychologists here, our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience here to be shared.

We recommend that to get started, you personalize your profile photo by going to your "My page" and rolling your cursor over the default C.G. Jung image. That will give you the option to switch it out. As well, there are many opportunities to engage as you browse the site. Please feel free to post a topic for discussion in the forum, respond to another member's post, or share a link to an article or web site you like.

There are a number of activities at the alliance such as the replay of "Mythic Activism" with Dr. Craig Chalquist or the Recent Audio Interview with author Ariane Page on Revelations from Brain Research & Systems Science in the Search for Happiness. Check out our vast video archive on a variety of topics and find events or post your own if you have one. You can also weigh in on the weekly depth discussions by clicking the image and quote at the top of the home page. Above all, get involved. Ask questions, post responses, and contact us if you want to offer a teleseminar or webinar for the community.

If you need detailed help getting started and navigating the site, you’ll find tips and pointers at http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/page/navigating-the-site and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! I look forward to seeing you around the community.
