The mysterious fascination of fairy tale. I am impressed by Jung's ability to discover the hidden "meaning" of these stories. When I attempted writing a novel many years ago I was surprised by the characters who popped up. Now I see they are split off aspects of myself, and, from reading Jung, I understand their dynamic.

I normally get about 6 people together and hand out an 8 1/2 x 11 notebook whose pages are blank on the top half and lined on the bottom. Each person is told that while the fairy tale is playing, they are invited to jot down any thoughts and/or feelings that arise. They may also want to draw so the top part of the page is for that purpose. I play a CD or tape, steering away from videos that impose visual images, and after it is over, each person is invited to share what they have drawn from the story - I try to encourage a more personal response rather than literary criticism but one time a historian joined the group and added aspects of the historical period of the fairy tale which added a new richness to the story. After we share, we eat &/or drink a bit, chat... Then we gather again and listen to the fairy tale again. The second listening is always magical.
