Mats Winther replied to Mats Winther's discussion Jung's quaternity of psychic functions is obsolete
"It is important for Jungians to tackle this issue, because faulty theory makes life harder for Jungian analysts. According to Jung, the thinking of the extraverted feeling type is "infantile, archaic, negative" (CW 6, para.600). According to his…"

"No, I haven't. But I've read his book on Jung."

"But to talk like this, i.e., "the President and the Republican Party are possessed by a primal, shadowy form of the Warrior archetype that threatens to engulf us all" sound very much like a Hitlerian projection. "

  • Hey Mat,

Just a heads up, I wanted to reread your paper on the self ( utterly fascinating by the way) but was unable to logon to any of your websites on Google, very strange! you might want to take a look. Will comment at a later date.

  • Hi Matts,
We communicated long ago in another newsgroup. Nice to see you here. I've always been impressed - and maybe intimidated! - by how much knowledge you have in this field! LoL - and I'm not trying to flatter you. Not entirely.

I have a question: I practiced active imagination almost obsessively for three years while i worked through a personal crisis. In one of my most recent sessions, a feminine figure answered a question by showing me an image of an elk. She wouldn't tell me what it meant, but she said (about showing me the elk image), "I'm seldom so literal."

I never did understand what she meant, but today I saw your profile picture. Intriguing! Please, what can you tell me about the elk as an image?

    Thank you,
    John K.
  • Hi Mats. Happy new year, and a somewhat belated welcome to the online depth community! Glad you've joined us.

It looks like you've had a chance to explore the site a bit and to engage already. I hope you've discovered the Alliance to be a dynamic group of likeminded people who are all fascinated by the field of depth psychology. While there are quite a number of certified psychologists and analysts here, it's actually a very interdisicplinary community. Many of our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much knowledge and experience here to be shared.

On that note, so glad you're trying out some of the groups. You may want to consider joining the new online book club if you haven’t already—you can jump in anytime (there will be a new author each month)—and you can participate at whatever level you wish. The January book is available as a download for $.99 or even free--and the February offering is an entirely different style.

Meanwhile, it looks like you're doing fine, but in case you need detailed help navigating the site, please use the following link-- http://www.depthpsychologyalliance.com/page/navigating-the-site --and  don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! I look forward to seeing you around the community~Bonnie Bright, Founder

  • Welcome Mats,

I am grateful that you have jumped into the discussions so quickly. You can only enrich our conversations in your areas of interest. The human soul is the topic of my dissertation so I would be interested in hearing your thoughts along this line on inquiry. Again, glad you have joined the Alliance and I will catch up on your posts!
