I stared at this small water filled hole for ten minutes. Back then I used film like a suchi chef uses fish. The voices in my head said "this is stupid. There is no picture here. Move on!" I was frozen in indecision, until I realized I could release myself by just taking the picture. Years later, looking at a photo of "the shaft of the dead man" from the book "The Time It Takes Falling Bodies To Light" by William Irwin Thompson, did it occur to me that the staff of Hermes, the caduceus, might exert an archetypal attraction. Pretty wild!
