Event Description

Dante's Divine Comedy has been called the most beautiful poem ever written- but it is much more than that: it is a brilliant work of imagination that weaves together Greek and Roman myth, European history and a pathway of universal spiritual development with deep cross-cultural resonances. Written during the "dark woods" of Dante's middle years amid a series of catastrophes, it is an epic achievement that saved the author's own life- and can immeasurably enrich our own. In this one-day workshop, we will encounter this epic adventure through storytelling, art, and music and then reflect how Dante's journey can become a map of development for our own inner transformation. Our day will end with a contemplative labyrinth walk with live music.

You do not need to have any familiarity Dante and no advanced preparation is needed. Just bring a notebook for journaling to discover  how both the labyrinth and The Divine Comedy provide a path of psychological development that can lead us from places of hopelessness, pain and despair to renewal, radiance and joy.

Kayleen Asbo, Ph.D, has been teaching Dante Workshops  for five years in churches, retreat centers and colleges throughout the Bay Area. She is a Master Teacher for the Veriditas Labyrinth Organization who holds four advanced degrees in mythology, music and psychology. Kayleen is on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory as well as the Osher Lifelong Leanring Institutes at UC Berkeley,  Dominican University and Sonoma State. A recent participant said, “ This workshop has literally changed the way I think. I loved the music, art and Kayleen’s passionate and informed presentation, but the biggest takeaway was the insight I received about my own life. I don’t think I will ever look at the world the same way again.” Another stated, “ This class should be required for anyone who is seeking a deeper understanding of spirituality or psychology. This was one of the most meaningful educational experiences ever!”
