Upcoming Conference Presentations

I will present my research on the art audience as shamanic community at the 28th International Conference on Shamanism, Sept. 3 - 5, located at the Santa Sabina Retreat Center in San Rafael, CA. This is an extraordinary event attended by extraordinary people, with a balance of the scholarly and the performance of rituals by traditional practitioners.

For more information, see www.shamanismconference.org.

I will also present my research, on the topic of the contemporary artist as shaman, at "Shamanhood and its Art", the 10th conference of the International Society of Shamanistic Researchers, convened at the Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw, Poland, Oct. 5-9, 2011.

See Shamanhood and its Art for more information.

Actually, one event that I sponsored in relation to the juncture of art and psychology involved 10 high school age d young women. We went to a local art museum and they were given an hour to walk around the galleries and take note of several things: 1) what piece(s) really upset them. 2) What pieces made them laugh. 3) What pieces seemed to speak to something "deeper" even if they didn't know what that was. 4) Or what the deeper message was that they did see. 5) What piece didn't seem like art at all. (Why is THIS in an art gallery?) 6) The one piece, money aside, that you would like to take home and why.

We then got together for lunch and some reflection in general about the experience.

Then we went back through the galleries together and each person described the works they had chosen and why for each of the question.

It was a high moment in my teaching career, one which brings a smile each time I think of it.

Thanks for giving me a chance to remember and smile again! :)

Hi Denita. I'd like to add my welcome to Ed's. From perusing your web site a bit, I can see you are clearly in touch with your gifts in this life.  I'm grateful you've found the Alliance and I hope you'll find this a place to deeply connect with likeminded others.

Please share at whatever level you feel comfortable, but I would love to hear more about your thoughts and experiences with shamanism (maybe join the Shamanism group here in the community?) and I'm also deeply drawn to Slavic cosmology, though I have direct experience with it in my daily reality.

Meanwhile, I'll  send you some tips on navigating the site in a separate email in case its of help. Enjoy the site, and I look forward to seeing you around. ~Bonnie Bright, Founder

Welcome Denita,

As I was viewing your art I suddenly realized I had to breathe! Wonder-full work. There are several artists as members of the Alliance. I hope you will meet them through the many blogs, forums, and groups. I look forward to your posts and any additional artworks you wish to share. Again, welcome.

Ed
