Michelle McMullen replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Hi Shriram,

In consideration of happiness being a state of mind, I am unsure how it could be anything but that. There may be things in life we feel happy about, but that is still about our state of mind in relationship to those things. But of…"

"Hi Shriram,

Thanks for liking my point. I am currently studying for my BS in Psychology and of course they cover the biological connection. This is fresh in my mind. But I definitely see that environmental and cognitive factors play a part in the…"

Michelle McMullen replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"Your comment that happiness takes work is food for thought. Typically I think happiness comes and goes with luck. I do tend to think that a sense of self-satisfaction, self-esteem, and self-efficacy were helpful in the process. I guess happiness is…"

Michelle McMullen replied to Shriram Sivaramakrishnan's discussion What is Happiness to you?
"I find that happiness in an emotion that causes the emission of positive neurotransmitters and hormones. How long this remains and how long a person experiences it, depends on the strength and of the stimulation. I believe a person who already has…"

  • Welcome Michelle,

Glad you found the Alliance and already joined in a discussion. My apologies for such a late welcome as I have been away from the computer awhile, just thought I would enjoy the coming of Spring. There are many topics within the Alliance so I hope you will find much of interest here and will continue to dialogue with us. Again, welcome and I look forward to your continued postings.

  • Hi Michelle. Greetings-- I'm glad you've found the Alliance.

Once you have a chance to explore the online community a bit, I think you'll find a dynamic group of likeminded people who are all deeply drawn by the field of depth psychology. While there are many Jungian analysts and clinical psychologists here, our members come from many walks of life--artists, writers, doctors, healing professionals, counselors, students, business people, etc--so there is much cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience here to be shared.

On that note, there are many opportunities to engage as you browse the site. Some simple ideas to get your feet wet are to introduce yourself in the forum; asking a question, or responding to someone else's post; or sharing a link to an article or web site you like.

You may want to consider joining the online book club if you haven’t already (so many have joined the past day or two I haven't managed to keep track!)—There's a new author each month, and you can jump in at anytime and participate at whatever level you wish. Even if you don't have the book for this month, you can order it from Assisi Institute now and have it within a couple of days.

The Book Club is all done via writing in an open forum, so you can read all the comments that have gone on so far (including past authors in January and February!) and get a feel for what's happening. As you may know, in March, we are featuring a wonderful new book from Jungian Analyst Dr. Michael Conforti, a specialist in archetypes and new sciences, "Field, Form, And Fate: Patterns in Mind, Nature, and Psyche."

In case you need detailed help getting started and navigating the site, you can use the following link--and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions at all! I look forward to seeing you around the community~Bonnie Bright, Founder
