Summer Retreat: Your Dreaming Practice

at Santa Sabina Center, San Rafael

Friday July 1-Sunday July 3

If you’re interested in dreams, you may already have some type of “dreaming practice,” though you may not think of it as such—how and when you record them, whom you share them with, how you bring them into your life. This retreat will acquaint you with a wide range of methods that can expand, enhance, and enrich your dream practice, whatever it is. During the weekend, Meredith will describe and demonstrate these; there will then be practice periods when you can try out ones that appeal:

—dialoging with a dream figure (animal, human, spirit)

—re-entering a dream to continue the narrative

—incubating a dream on a question or topic

—meditating on an archetypal image or dream koan

—writing dreams into fairy tales or stories

—portraying dream images and making altar pieces in art mediums

—reviewing several months’ dreams to identify themes

Please bring your dream journal or a print-out of 4-6 dreams to work with. The exercises will initially be done in the group setting, but this does not necessitate self-disclosure. Symbol books and art materials will be on hand for your use. There will also be time for relaxing, reading, hiking, and visiting with kindred folks. As a result of the retreat experience, you may come to view your dream practice differently: perhaps as a companion or guide; as a spiritual practice itself; or as part of a soulful practice you already have. This retreat is designed for novice and experienced dreamers alike.

There is space left for 4 residential participants and 5 commuters. You may arrive anytime after 3pm on Friday; departure is at 2pm Sunday.
