Psychology and "sexting"

I thought some of y'all might be interested in this really insightful, brilliantly written essay about "sexting" from a psychoanalytical perspective:

As it happens, my original dissertation proposal was about "the erotic body in cyberspace." I junked the idea after I got so much negative reaction to the idea that virtual reality can embody us in new ways as "valid" as what we call "real life."

I don't totally agree with the writer's assertion that cyber sex is always narcissistic and fundamentally masturbatory. The very phrase "virtual reality" suggests liminality and I think that's true of the body as well as the psyche. At the least, we should be thinking about ways conceptualization of the body is changing.
