Hi Depth Psychologists!

I wanted to share my forthcoming book series - I am raising money for my editor through an indiegogo campaign. I wanted to share it with this community because depth psychology was a guiding theme in the book.

I finished my Master's at Pacifica in 2010 then went to law school to be an environmental lawyer. As an environmental lawyer, I've been an advocate for renewable energy and climate change mitigation. Despite this rewarding work, part of me still wanted to write a myth about our relationship with technology and the question of what it means to be human as we become progressively more integrated with information and computers. Thus, Parallel was born. I have a complete manuscript for the first book, 'The Houses of the Curious,' and a near complete manuscript for the second. All I need is an editor and a lot of grit to get it to the finish line. If you can help with the funds, I'll do the rest. I can't wait to share!

Here's the link to the indiegogo - https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/parallel-book-one-series-adventu...

Please message me with questions and comments - I would love to continue the dialogue. I'm happy to talk about energy (specifically electric utilities and retail electricity markets) if that also stirs the collective imagination.

Thank you all so much for reading!

Best,

John

Hi All, I've had some thoughts to explain a little about why a sci-fi book fits on this thread.

In my opinion, I think that in many ways we have crossed a threshold where we are closer to science fiction than our 'natural roots.' Case in point, this discussion is being coded into binary, piping through a vast network of servers and relays, before being decoded and read by a person! Somewhat unbelievably, it works! This is an oversimplification, but the point is that we have crossed into a world where our mundane is actually pretty magical if we can see it.

So I wanted to write a story where that mundane magic is the vehicle for a myth. I tried to follow Campbell and various other mythic forms to address what I think is one of the big questions of our time: What is humanity? (I think one of the other big questions is our role in the cosmos now that we've become a geologic power on our planet).

I'm hoping that my book can open that depth psychological story up to a wider audience and resonate with our current mythic reality.

Any thoughts?

Congrats on the manuscript, John. Can't wait to read!
