Jung And Crop Circles

For centuries, but particularly in the last few decades, Crop Circles have been a mysterious visitor arriving at our door.  Recently we have been able to identify scientifically that this phenomenon is no hoax, but something that is authentically unknown.  This evidence includes cellular, biochemical, physical, germinal, electromagnetic and other changes to the plants themselves as well as archival documentation back several centuries.  While its agent remains a mystery, its forms echo the symbolic language that lives inside all of us.  Throughout the evolution of the phenomenon it has consistently displayed itself in the geocentric forms that Jung identified as being the guise of the Self archetype–the part of us that seeks our greater wholeness.  This new phenomenon’s medium–grain–also harkens our imagination back to the ancient goddess rituals that emphasized the archetypal Feminine’s connection to the miracle of life.  In this way, Crop Circle’s mystery offers us an opportunity to make contact with the Self and the Feminine at a time when the world is in desperate need of recovering both.

I am very proud to invite all of you who are interested in what a Jungian perspective can offer to the modern mystery of Crop Circles to check out my Jung & Crop Circles pages. I wrote an MA thesis at Pacifica on this topic and am very happy to share my wealth of knowledge on it with you. There's a lot on there now but much more to come soon. Check it out!

  • Gary: What an incredible and interesting topic! I'm so glad you are willing to share your research in this arena! I have read Jung's assessment of the UFO phenomenon and find myself fascinated by the archetypal and symbolic energy around the crop circles (which may or may not be related). I didn't know about the biochemical/cellular/germinal/electromagnetic changes to the soil and plants before reading your work and that just adds to the mystery.

I love that you are challenging us to suspend judgment on the topic as a whole. I am also highly aware just now that all geometric symbols are found in nature in some way--whether it be the circle, the spiral, or others. In fact, I saw an image of an amazing landmark (in Ireland, I believe) where there are huge blocks of stone that look for all the world as if they had been sculpted, but are, in fact, completely natural. I also have to wonder about theories like Rupert Sheldrake's morphogenetic fields and wonder about existing energy that influences physical matter.

Great, great mystery, and great inquiry into it! Looking forward to learning more and spending more time on your site.
    • Thanks Bonnie! I very much enjoyed your feedback. I'm relocated down to the SB/Ojai area and will be doing talks on this topic soon - in fact, if you can recommend locations for giving talks I would love to hear your (or anyone's) suggestions. I spoke at the Pacifica conference in June and hope to find more good venues as well. Again thanks, Gary
