My review of A Story Waiting to Pierce You: Mongolia, Tibet and the Destiny of the Western World

"Peter Kingsley's new book is not a book at all. Joseph Rael, who wrote the preface, calls it an incantation, a song. I would call it a combination of story, myth and most importantly, an instrument used for transcending what we typically think a book should do, namely, impart information in an interesting way. On this last point, Kingsley's device is one that leaves you wanting, not in a bad way, but more in the sense that it operates like a symbol or a paradox; each leads you to another nameless, wordless reality. This is precisely Kingsley's objective in all his writings: to deconstruct what now is called philosophy and bring it back to its original form, a passionate love affair with wisdom. This love isn't an intellectual matter but rather a divine experience that the original philosophers had in the form of visions, dreams, ecstasies. In other ways, the book brings us to the missing link that connects the branches of Western philosophy with its roots. He brings us back to exotic places like Mongolia and Tibet, but at the same time informs us that we carry this history within us right now and that were we to re-read the ancient ones, we too would be able to experience this divine, cosmic realm in the present moment. Kingsley's tome is a wonderful arrow pointing us straight into the heart of reality!"
