Event Description

Soulful travel, Eastern spirituality, and healing trauma...

Oct 31-Nov 14, 2017: Soldier’s Heart co-founders Ed Tick (psychotherapist, author of War and the Soul and The Practice of Dream Healing) and Kate Dahlstedt (psychotherapist, group leader, writer) will co-lead the 17th annual Healing and Reconciliation Journey to Viet Nam.

Everyone is welcome to join as we explore some deeply archetypal themes!

Our in-country guide and ARVN veteran Tran Song will assist us. Our journey will focus on immersing in the wonderful people, culture, country and spirituality of the real Viet Nam, along with healing old war wounds; achieving forgiveness and reconciliation between American and Vietnamese vets and civilians; and practicing the healing of deep trauma.

A special feature of this year's trip will be a international Veterans Day healing ceremony that will include veterans from different countries and different factions of the war. All our journeys to Viet Nam are unforgettable experiences of healing, forgiveness, restoration, peacemaking and joy.

While the journey is designed in part around the interests and experiences of our veterans and survivors, everyone is welcome.

The journey will include several days in Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, and in Hanoi sharing with Vietnamese veterans and professional colleagues. Additional stops determined by the needs of our travelers.

The Vietnamese are waiting for us. We will be welcomed as honored guests in their country and we will experience both personal growth and healing and collective healing when we join the mission of war healing for everyone.

These are not pre-packaged tours. Each journey is uniquely designed for the healing and educational needs of our participants.

Projected cost: $3,900, including all land, sea and air travel in Viet Nam, all hotels, guides, admissions, fees and philanthropy projects in Viet Nam.

Int'l airfare NOT included.

Please contact us ASAP to provide a $500 deposit (includes $100 non-refundable registration fee).

If you are a veteran and finances are difficult, please contact us. We have a matching financial aid fund to help bring veterans or family members back to Viet Nam, and we have guided veterans in raising money.

We keep our groups small, so space is limited. We look forward to hearing from you and traveling together on the adventure of a lifetime.

Hoa Binh means Peace in Vietnamese. Help us make peace and bring healing to our veterans, our countries and the world

Kate Dahlstedt, M.A, has worked with veterans and their families for over 27 years. She founded Soldier’s Heart with her husband and partner Dr. Edward Tick after his book, War and the Soul, was published in 2005. Together, they have created the Soldier’s Heart Model, which they continue to shape and adapt. Kate shares the Soldier’s Heart Model in her anthology chapter, “Burying the Stone” in Beyond Forgiveness: Reflections on Atonement.

Kate currently directs the Soldier’s Heart Military Families Project and Athena’s Shield for Women Project, connecting women from around the country through teleconferencing for support and to share the impact of war on their lives. She is a Soldier’s Heart Program Leader, leading intensive veteran healing retreats and healing journeys to Vietnam and Greece with Dr. Tick. She provides consultation, training, supervision and advanced education to other professionals and clergy, organizations, communities and colleges on veterans’ emotional and spiritual concerns.

Kate holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology as well as post-graduate certification from the Hartford Family Institute. She has maintained a private practice for nearly three decades, is an experienced group leader, and has additional clinical experience in sexual assault, Hospice and college counseling. She is a published writer of journal articles, poetry and anthology chapters and has also been an adjunct professor at Russell Sage College in Troy, NY.

The daughter of a WWII veteran, Kate spent many hours as a child asking her father about his army experiences. She is grateful that even though war broke his heart it did not break his spirit.
