About the instructor: Marguerite Rigoglioso, PhD, turned several of her graduate papers into published articles and transformed her doctoral dissertation into two plus books. The first is the groundbreaking volume The Cult of Divine Birth in Ancient Greece (Palgrave Macmillan 2009), which reveals the existence of an entire network of priestesses dedicated to miraculous conception in Mediterranean antiquity. The second, Virgin Mother Goddesses of Antiquity (Palgrave Macmillan), will be released in September. A third is in progress. Marguerite worked a chapter of her master’s thesis into an article published in the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion on the cult to Demeter and Persephone at Lake Pergusa in Sicily, which was given an honorable mention for the journal’s New Scholar Award. Her academic articles have also appeared in the anthologies Societies of Peace and She Is Everywhere! Vol. 1, as well as Feminist Theology, Trivia, The Encyclopedia of Religion and Nature, and other publications. Marguerite is the editor of Where to Publish Articles on Women’s Studies, Feminist Religious Studies, and Feminist/Womanist Topics. Marguerite teaches courses on women and religion at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and Dominican University. She has been a freelance writer with numerous university, corporate, and nonprofit clients for the past 24 years. She holds a doctorate in humanities and a master’s in philosophy and religion from CIIS, as well as an A.B. in psychology, with high honors, from Vassar College.
