Event Description

Soul and Earth Therapies

Clouds Rest: Outer Travel with Inner Purpose

October 17 – 20, 2013

Yosemite National Park

C. G. Jung borrowed the word archetype from the ancient Greeks to describe the universal patterns that shape human experience.  On the ground in Yosemite, we track into outer wilderness to experience the archetypal pattern of pilgrimage.

Pilgrimage is a search for something.  What do we, as pilgrims, seek as we carry psyche’s wounds to the summit of Clouds Rest—up beyond the comforts of our ego’s understanding of itself?

Separating ourselves from our ordinary worlds, we undergo the ordeal of wilderness travel: carrying the weight of a pack and confronting the steepness of the trail in the thin mountain air.  Through consciously suffering the difficulty of the pilgrimage, we begin to cultivate a new relationship to our wounds: We carry our wounds and limits consciously so that our injuries may speak to us about their experience and the healing needed to transform pain and limitation into new meaning and expanded possibilities.

In Yosemite, we suffer our suffering in order to grow beyond that suffering.  We want to shed the narrowness of old experience.  Then, in the clearing created by the surrender of the ego to the demands of traveling beyond its ability to control the outcome of things, we move consciously toward contact and engagement with the intelligence and healing capacities of the deep soul.
